Cut Your Factory or Hotel's CEB Demand Charge with Peak-Shaving

For a commercial or industrial site in Sri Lanka, the biggest line on your electricity bill is often not the energy you use, it is the maximum-demand charge. It is billed on the highest demand your site sustains over the meter's demand interval, in kVA. A battery is the tool that attacks that line directly.

Why the demand charge hurts

On commercial and industrial tariffs you pay for every kVA of peak demand, every month, whether that level of demand occurred once in the month or every day. Simultaneous loads, sustained motor operation, refrigeration cycles and production peaks can set the demand the meter records, which you then pay for across the whole billing period. That is money paid for capacity, not consumption.

How peak-shaving works

A battery sits alongside your supply and discharges during those demand peaks, so the recorded demand stays down. Your billed maximum demand drops to a level you control. Because the charge is set by your highest recorded demand, you do not need to shift much energy, you just need to be discharging at the right moments, which the system does automatically.

The numbers

The saving is your demand-charge rate multiplied by the kVA you shave. As an illustration, shaving 50 kVA at Rs 1,650/kVA is Rs 82,500 a month before a single unit of energy is saved. Add time-of-use arbitrage (charging off-peak, discharging at peak) and daytime solar self-consumption and the case strengthens. The exact figure depends on your tariff and how spiky your load is, which is why we model it from your actual bills.

Backup comes with it

The same battery that shaves your demand also carries your critical loads through an outage. For a hotel that means the kitchen, lifts and front desk stay up; for a factory it means production is not lost to a grid dip. You are buying bill savings and uptime insurance in one system.

The hardware

Our commercial and industrial energy storage cabinets deliver 125 kW / 261 kWh per unit, liquid-cooled LiFePO4 with integrated power electronics and fire safety, and parallel for larger sites. For sites that also run a diesel generator, the diesel-solar-storage hybrid adds generator control and solar. Savings depend on your tariff, load profile and operation, and are modelled for your site; figures shown are illustrative, not a guarantee.
